Terms of Use

The rules for using Front Door, in plain words. They took effect on October 10, 2026. Our Privacy policy says who can see what you share.

What Front Door is

Front Door is a free, independent service. It helps you find programs, apply for them, and keep track of the mail about them.

Front Door is not a government website. No state, county or federal agency runs it.

Front Door does not give legal advice. For free legal help, call 211 and ask for legal aid near you.

Each agency decides who qualifies for its programs. When we say you are likely to qualify, that is our best reading of the agency’s rules, not a decision.

Your account

You sign in with your email address and a password, or with a code we email you. Anyone who can read your email can sign in as you, so keep your email and your password safe.

Please give true answers. Applications go to real agencies, and the agency decides based on what you tell it.

Your account is for you and the people in your household. Do not sign in as someone else.

What you let us do with what you share

When you share answers, documents or letters with Front Door, you let us use them to help you, and only for that. That means we may:

  • Save your answers and documents in your vault, so you only type them once.
  • Read the letters you forward to your Front Door inbox or take a photo of, so we can tell you what each one means and what to do next.
  • Read the resume or profile answers you give us, so we can match you with programs and help with work.
  • Use service providers, including AI models, to sort your mail, match you with programs, and explain things in plain words. Before your words reach them, we remove or mask names, Social Security numbers, ID numbers and account numbers.
  • Fill in an agency’s form from your vault. You read it and sign it yourself. Nothing goes to an agency until you say so.

We never sell what you share. The Privacy policy lists the companies that help us run Front Door and what each one gets.

Using Front Door fairly

Use Front Door for yourself, or for someone who asked you to help them.

Do not share anything that is not yours to share. Do not try to break into the site, slow it down, or copy it in bulk. Do not use it to send spam or to hurt anyone.

We may close an account that breaks these rules. When we can, we will tell you why.

You can delete everything

You can delete your account and everything in it at any time, on the Privacy page. Applications you already sent stay with the agency that got them, because they are now that agency’s records.

When we get something wrong

We check program rules and phone numbers often, but rules change and we can make mistakes. Before you count on a benefit, check with the agency. We are not responsible for an agency’s decision.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we will post the new version on this page with the date it starts. If you have an account, your home page will ask you to read the new version and agree.

Questions

Send us a note with the feedback form. Please do not include Social Security, card or bank numbers.
