About this data

County and city offices, food banks, free legal help, community action agencies, food pantries and meal sites, and the programs the state runs, in every state and DC. It uses the Human Services Data Specification (HSDS 3.3.1) from Open Referral, so 211s and referral tools can load it as it is.

How it is built and checked

  • We read official pages and trusted lists: county and city websites, state agencies, Feeding America, the Legal Services Corporation and community action networks.
  • A research file counts only when it passes the same checks it must pass to reach Front Door. A file with a problem waits until it is fixed.
  • Every service and organization names the page it came from and the day we read it.
  • We rebuild the files with every release of Front Door. The API reads only these files, never our live database.

Known gaps

  • Changes made by organizations that claimed their listing, and links we fixed after a check, reach these files later.
  • Hours are listed for food sites. For offices and programs, call or check the source page.
  • The API has no full-text search, ZIP code or distance filters yet. The files cover bulk use.
